Hydrocyclone
A hydrocyclone thickens washed salt slurry and separates part of the fine impurities with the brine before the slurry goes to the centrifuge.

Product description
A hydrocyclone separates particles by centrifugal force and has no moving parts. The slurry is pumped into it tangentially and spins inside the cone: the heavier salt crystals move to the wall and leave through the bottom outlet as a thickened slurry, while most of the brine, carrying fine impurities, leaves through the top outlet.
In a salt washing line the hydrocyclone is usually placed between the washing tanks and the centrifuge, so that the centrifuge receives a thicker slurry. How well it separates depends on the slurry, the feed pressure and the size of the unit, which is why it is selected for each line.
